WPL2 case
Electronica - ICT rebranding
In the second semester of my first year, I have a course called 'Werkplekleren 2', abbreviated as WPL2. This course builds upon a similar first-year course, WPL1. Its aim is to apply our learning to a semester-long project, encompassing the creation of a brand guide, a functional website, a prototyped application, a campaign/marketing plan, and a final pitch & demo presentation for the project.
Intro
Our client, PXL Hogeschool, oversees the Electronics-ICT cluster. This cluster is often misunderstood as focusing solely on circuit boards and mechanics, when in fact it covers a wide range of 'smart' technologies and teaches practices relevant to current industries, including Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Machine Learning and AI, Cybersecurity, Digital Twins, and more.
This projected started on 26th of February 2024 and ended on 28th of May 2024.
Work process
We used Agile Scrum to organise our project. Additionally, we used Jira and Confluence as tools to keep track of the workload and timeschedules.
This project went through 4 sprints with each sprint having a clear goal: research & discovery, structuring & preparation, Creation and Refinement
Deliverables

I'm going to divide my contribution of this project over multiple sprints. That way I can shape a clearer view of the input I provided.
Sprint 1
I have little to say over this sprint as a lot of the tasks were pushed around the table and everyone had contributed to the same works. In this sprint, I worked on ...
- Interviews (I interviewed an alumni who studies now in University)
- I set up the Github repository and netlify to host the website
- Benchmarking of the competition
- Helped create persona's
- Researched the social media of competitors
- Preparing the sprint review for sprint 1
- Worked on my own individual part of the Teampage
Sprint 2
This sprint was kind of chaotic. Many of us didn't assign parts of the project only to ourselves. Making it so that many other teammates would be working on your part which wasn't always necessary. It was also this time when individual opinions would clash.
- Working through the feedback of sprint 1
- Started with basic branding: logo's, looking for color palettes, fonts ...
- Made a moodboard
- Organised a brainstorm session to find a title and slogan of our rebranded study branch
- Regularly talked to coaches for tips and feedback on the brand-guide
- Kept Confluence up to date
- Preparing the sprint review presentation for sprint 2
- Wrote down the feedback of the presentation and shared it with the group
Sprint 3
Luckily, this time everyone was falling within their comfortable spots. People who were more inclined to design stuff took upon design work, while our programmer could finally do what he was best at. In this sprint we did get a set-back. Our wireframes from the previous sprint were not up to par and we had to speed things up to get this sprint done.
- Working through the feedback of sprint 2
- Mostly gave a lot of advice on wireframes rather than working on it
- Researched brand personalities and tone of voice, and implemented them
- Defined the mission and vision statement
- Working more on the brand-guide and brainstorming more about logo's
- Updated Confluence with the feedback of my projectmanagement coaches
- Preparing the sprint review presentation for sprint 3
- Helped the developer with front-end development (in Vue.js)
- Wrote down the feedback of the presentation and shared it with the group
Sprint 4
Everyone was really focused at their task at hand and this sprint felt heavier than the rest. We knew what was waiting for us, but it's the pressure to have everything be finished completely with an eye for detail. I was looking forward to have a finished project!
- Working through the feedback of sprint 3
- Fixed some errors in the code that persisted throughout sprint 3 (image paths, wrong tags used in certain files ...)
- Worked on and finished a few pages on the website
- Fixed some branching problems on Github conflicting with the main branch
- Finished the brand book
- Kept Confluence up to date with the website's evolution
- Preparing the sprint review presentation for sprint 4
- Worked on this portfolio and hosted it via netlify
- Worked on the pitch and demo of this project
